This holiday season is the swan song for the Nintendo Switch. Nintendo told us as much when talking about the long-awaited Switch successor To be announced in April 2025. But thankfully Nintendo isn’t running into old age as it looks to launch a Switch sequel, as 2024 has seen a slew of great games arrive on the nearly eight-year-old console. So let’s take a look back at some of our favorite games coming to Switch in 2024. Ever since Nintendo confirmed that its next generation will be backwards compatible. (Hopefully, if we’re lucky, any performance issues with the game on the current Switch will be ironed out when played on the next model.)

We’ll all have to be patient as we continue to wait for the Switch’s successor, but these games are undoubtedly worth playing during the last few months your current Nintendo console is in the spotlight.

pepper grinder is a unique 2D platformer that lets you drill, dolphin-like dive and surface through a colorful, sprite-filled world. The game’s key mechanics feel frantic and extremely rewarding as you expertly traverse the world’s obstacles via violent paths of drills and fallen enemies. Then it ups the ante by adding a grappling hook. Keep my beating heart. (No, really, fast movements sometimes get my heart rate up—in a funny way, not an alarming way.)

The smooth black, white and red art style and weird settings make the game full of mystery, and the challenging puzzles are sure to stimulate your brain. Be prepared to take notes so you don’t feel overwhelmed when the game makes you think outside the box or do basic math.
