Day 8 of OpenAI’s 12 Days has just begun, and it’s already over. ChatGPT search is the focus, with some major enhancements and a wider rollout for free users logged in around the world where ChatGPT is available. Much like Canvas, you need a free account to search with ChatGPT and get high rate limits.
Kevin also teased that tomorrow (Day 9) will be a mini developer day, so expect the focus to be less on consumer features and more on larger tools.
In addition to rolling out ChatGPT search to more users, OpenAI is integrating the feature more seamlessly into its Android or iOS mobile apps. When you ask a question, such as a restaurant in a specific area, as the OpenAI team demonstrated during the presentation, it lists the results in order. Additionally, you can have a more natural conversation about the results to find what you really want. Very neat.
Once you find a restaurant in the ChatGPT app for iOS, you can also get directions through integrated Apple Maps.
Additionally, in the mobile app, you can use voice mode to chat with ChatGPT, and it will weave search results and broader web information into its responses. For example, if you want to visit a Christmas market, you can even get more specific about opening hours and dates.
It’s All About ChatGPT Search Day 8
let’s go! OpenAI is entering its 8th day of 12 days of announcements. Kevin, OpenAI’s product lead, started the meeting and quickly stated that today’s focus was on ChatGPT searches.
First, starting today, it will reach everyone in the world and all platforms where ChatGPT is available. OpenAI has also widely stated that they have made ChatGPT search better and introduced the ability to search while you are talking using ChatGPT advanced voice mode.
We asked ChatGPT what notifications to expect today
We asked ChatGPT what OpenAI will release today, because if anyone knows it it should be ChatGPT, right? It comes back:
“Given the apparent lack of imagery generation updates to date, many have speculated DALL-E Update It might come today. The announcement is set for 10 a.m. PT, so keep an eye out for news about potential advancements in OpenAI’s creative tools and accessibility features.
Honestly, we think that’s correct, but it sounds a lot like ChatGPT. We’ve been reading our own blog post on the topic posted today (see below), so, uh, no thanks to ChatGPT…
Is it time for an AI podcast generator?
So far, we haven’t seen an AI podcast generator in OpenAI. While Google has had a lot of success with NotebookLM, its research tool that produces extremely realistic podcasts between two AI hosts based on any text, video, or PDF source you provide, we haven’t seen that yet. Any results from OpenAI are therefore far away.
Google is launching a What’s new in NotebookLM This allows you to join the conversation with the AI moderator as well.
NotebookLM is so popular that we’re starting to wonder if we’ll see OpenAI get into the AI podcast game this week with one of its “12 Days of OpenAI” editions? Time will tell.
Let’s talk about AI images
Could we see a major DALL-E update in today’s announcement? I highly doubt it, but you never know.
Today, TechRadar’s senior AI writer John-Anthony Disotto has been testing Grok, a competitor to Elon Musk’s AI company xAI’s DALL-E. Grok 2 is now free for all users on X (formerly Twitter), and it’s capable of some crazy, unrestricted image generation results.
In his work entitled “I used Grok’s new free tier on the X, but I can’t show you the results because it might infringe on Nintendo’s copyright”, he said of OpenAI’s AI image generator that doesn’t create images of copyrighted figures or public figures, whereas Grok does whatever you ask it to do. Despite its limitations, DALL-E 3 works as part of ChatGPT Still one of our choices The best artificial intelligence image generatorbut can it get better with today’s announcement? Time will tell.
My favorite announcement from last week?
Today is a good day to review the good news OpenAI announced last week, and while Sora was the highlight, it’s without a doubt the other announcement I found the most useful…
I’m talking about the Canvas function. As I wrote at the time, it had Completely changed the way I use ChatGPT. The new writing tools are very useful and I like the way that you can refine the same piece of text over and over again instead of having to constantly generate a lot of text every time you just want to change one of the elements.
If you haven’t used Canvas yet, I recommend giving it a try. It’s free!
Welcome to day eight of “12 Days of OpenAI”! We spent the weekend thinking about all the good stuff OpenAI released last week (Sora, ChatGPT Canvas and Projects, and ChatGPT o1), which got us wondering what can we expect from the AI giant this week?
There has been no news about AI image generation, so will we see a new DALL-E version today?
We’ll be here from today until this Friday, the 20th, when we’ll have our last day of OpenAI releases. Today’s announcement will begin at 10 AM Pacific Time, so don’t miss it.
