2024 was a good year for personal Gmail, Google Calendar

Last year, I wished Google More iterations on the personal side Gmail, calendar, and other Workspace apps. In 2024, Google made several updates to its suite of productivity apps that I benefit from and appreciate every day.

Gmail for Android has been redesigned this year to use a chat-style interface to reply to emails. Because this transformation allows you to “Quick reply” You can quote the text of a message as you write without opening a whole new screen. (Google hasn’t rolled out this feature for Workspace Labs or iOS yet.)

Another big change I benefit from every day (especially during the holidays) is being more at-a-glance and actionable summary card. This new design better highlights key messages at the top, starting with “Buy,” without having to read the entire email. There will also be cards for event, billing, and travel-related emails that will appear in the new “Coming Soon” section above your inbox and search results.

In front of Gemini, there is “Summarize” button and Contextual smart repliesalso Gmail Q&Awhich brings the Gemini side panel from the desktop to mobile devices and provides a familiar interface.

In Google Calendar, the biggest upgrade coming in 2024 is Dark theme for web applications appeared with Material You, while in second place was Quick month switcher.

It’s also worth noting that Google Calendar is still the best Android tablet/foldable app. This dual-pane layout of tasks and calendar is truly desktop-grade:

I enjoy you materially Redesign Google Tasks Got it, but the home screen widget now needs to be modernized and look like a calendar. Likewise, the “Reschedule” button in task notifications improves quality of life and saves time. We’re still waiting for the Keep reminder to show up in Google Tasks, here’s the Announced in April.

this Google Keep redesigned It’s even more of a mixed bag. I do like the consistency of FAB, but the two-step note creation process takes some getting used to. I still occasionally double-click the floating action button, thereby closing the new menu, thinking I missed it the first time. The Keep update I often use is Adjustable dual-panel layout On tablets and foldable devices. It comes in handy when I need to reference a few other ideas from the note I’m working on in the main page.

Other nice Google Workspace updates this year include The dark moments of Google Drive web appalthough I would use Voice Memos for Google Chat If only more people I knew used the app.
