2024 Winners and losers: OnePlus
2024 is shaping up to be a strong year for OnePlus – with both the main and Nord series delivering some real winners. However, there have been some embarrassing hiccups, and to make matters worse, the company’s future strategy may lead it down the wrong path.
Winner: OnePlus 12
With two exceptions, one plus 12 Excellent performance on all tasks. It has a beautiful screen, great battery life and fast charging, solid performance, and impressive camera stabilization for selfies and videos. The IP65 rating is sub-par for a flagship, and daytime video quality needs some improvement.
Those factors aside, the OnePlus 12 holds up Galaxy S24 Ultra and the likealbeit cheaper (although OnePlus flagships are not cheap these days).
one plus 12
The mobile phone has been received OxygenOS 15 Update Has many AI features (AI Retouch, AI Notes) and a lot of UI improvements. OnePlus’ updates, however, are something we’d like to discuss in a separate section.
Winner(?): OnePlus 12R
The company’s “flagship killer” days are long gone, but it still offers high-end models built to more affordable specs, such as OnePlus 12R. It cuts down on features and price compared to the 12, but still achieves an enticing formula.
It also has a great display and class-leading battery life with fast (if only wired) charging. The Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 is better than any mid-range chip in 2024, and OnePlus has provided it with adequate cooling for long runs.
The main camera performs well, but the 8MP fixed-focus ultra-wide-angle camera not so much (although it does perform better than expected in the dark). The bigger problem is the lack of a telephoto camera. The quality of daytime videos could also be better. take a look at our Oneplus 12 and 12R Release more details on how the R phone compares to its pricier sibling.
OnePlus 12R
You may be wondering why there is a question mark in the title. Some of you already know this, but it’s probably not something you’re considering. The 12R was the first R-series phone sold in the U.S., and it hit an unexpected obstacle—it Not available on Verizon. The incident was clarified a few days later, which was embarrassing but ultimately not a big deal.
A bigger mistake is that OnePlus advertises the 256GB 12R as having UFS 4.0 storage, when in fact it uses Slower UFS 3.1. Finally, OnePlus Offer full refund To all 256GB 12R buyers.
Loser: Operating system support
Last year, OnePlus announced that the OnePlus 11 would get 4 Operating system updates and 5 years of security patches. We were hoping that with the launch of 12 it would extend this, but no such luck. In fact, OnePlus goes the extra mile explained the reason Just 5 years of support is enough.
In short, OnePlus COO Kinder Liu believes that even if the software stays up to date, the hardware will no longer be useful. “When our competitors say their software policies will last seven years, keep in mind that their phone batteries may not,” Liu said.
We wonder if OnePlus will reconsider this stance now that it’s committed Battery lasts 4 years of healthy use (That is, after four years of normal use, the battery will maintain at least 80% of its capacity). This is in Cooperate with CATLby the way.
Winner: OnePlus Nord 4
this OnePlus Nord 4 Brings back good memories of aluminum one-piece molding this How to build a great phone. Don’t get us wrong, we appreciate that today’s wireless charging and a thousand wireless connectivity options work better with a glass back. We just like to see some changes.
OnePlus Nord 4
The Nord 4 has cool looks (especially the Mercurial Silver is stunning), amazing battery life (the 5,500mAh battery helps a lot with that), fast charging, and…well, well, it is Pure wired charging, but 100W charging. Regardless, the Snapdragon 7+ Gen 3 proved to be a very capable performer, although we didn’t think we’d be able to get the most out of the 120Hz display. The camera could be better too.
Nonetheless, its unique looks and great price make the OnePlus Nord 4 one of the highlights of 2024.
Loser: OnePlus Nord CE4 Lite
While its stylish sibling is the winner, OnePlus Nord CE4 Lite Falling into the loser category. Does OnePlus 3rd generation CE Lite really use Snapdragon 695? Yes, yes, indeed. Note that this chip is already old when used in the 2022 CE2 Lite.
To be fair, it does have a significantly improved display over the Nord CE3 Lite, and the battery life and IP rating are also better. Even the camera has seen small but noticeable improvements (especially video stabilization). However, the lack of an ultrawide camera and chipset-related limitations (such as 1080p @ 30fps video shooting) are very disappointing.
OnePlus Nord CE4 Lite
The OnePlus Nord CE4 addresses many of the complaints we had about the Lite – a powerful Snapdragon 7 Gen 3 chipset, faster UFS 3.1 storage, a camera with 4K video capture and an ultra-wide-angle lens, and even a larger 5,500mAh battery. It does get rid of the 3.5mm headphone jack, but retains the microSD slot.
Unfortunately, the Nord CE4 is only sold in India, so it doesn’t get its own section. If it does, it’ll be in the loser category too – it would be better if OnePlus made the CE4 a global model and didn’t care about the CE4 Lite at all.
Loser: OnePlus Open
It’s not about the phone – this 2023 model actually performs very well – but about the lack of a follow-up. The Open launches in late 2023 and there is no sequel yet. We’ve occasionally heard rumors about Open 2, but it’s clear it will be released in 2025.
What happened? We don’t know. Internal sources suggest that the Oppo foldable phone on which the Open 2 is based has been shelved (the Open is based on the Oppo Find N3), but that doesn’t entirely answer the question. Is it a technical problem or a more economic problem – not enough sales or not enough profits? Again, we don’t know.
OnePlus Open
However, the foldable market is heating up and OnePlus may not want to lose this segment. So what about clamshell foldable devices? There’s nothing official yet, but there are rumors that OnePlus V flip cover It is expected to be realized in the second quarter of 2025.
