2024 Winners and losers: Samsung
It’s time every year to take a look back at our favorite brands and submit our report cards. Samsung will become the world’s largest smartphone manufacturer in 2024, which is a huge victory. Its mid-range and S series phones are hugely popular, but its foldable phones haven’t had the best of times. Let’s dig a little deeper.
Winner: Samsung Galaxy A16 and A16 5G
Samsung entry level Galaxy A16 and A16 5G Both are extremely popular, and for good reason. Both phones have good displays, solid battery life, and 50MP main cameras. They are also IP54 dust and splash resistant. Starting at just under 200 euros, they are already doing well in many markets.
Winner: Galaxy A55
Samsung’s Galaxy A55 The joint most popular Galaxy in our database. It starts at around €320 and has flagship-level killer specs. It has a 120Hz Super AMOLED display, 4nm chipset, 5,000mAh battery, and IP67 water and dust resistance. Its camera is capable, too.
It also boasts Samsung’s proven One UI and the promise of 4 major Android updates – an unprecedented feat in its price range. In much of Europe and North America, the phone easily outsells any non-iPhone device.
Winner: Galaxy S24 FE and Galaxy S24+
we in our argument Galaxy S24 FE review That S24+ Arguably a better deal. But the problem with Samsung and its unparalleled distribution network is that it covers so many markets that most of its devices end up finding their own niche. So it’s either a non-issue or a win for Samsung. You’re going to buy one of these phones anyway.
The Galaxy S24 FE and S24+ are very similar spec-wise, but the Plus has a slight edge. However, both products are powerful flagships and share Samsung’s strong commitment to seven years of operating system updates. If you’re looking for a quality high-end smartphone from a top phone manufacturer, both of these are safe bets. Both are likely to sell well.
Winner: Galaxy S24
Last year, Galaxy S23 sales were surpassed by the S23 Ultra and S23+. Smaller this year Galaxy S24 Outsold the Plus model. This is a win for Samsung and means there’s still hope for the world of compact phones.
Winner: Galaxy Watch Ultra
Samsung’s Galaxy Watch range is a bit confusing. There are regular models, Classic (with rotating bezels), we have a Pro in 2022 and Ultra in 2024. It brings solid credentials and a great smartwatch experience. It has a unique design with a square body and a round sapphire dial.
Loser: Galaxy Watch7 (no Watch7 Classic)
While the Ultra wins, fans of the Classic model, which has a physical rotating bezel, are left with last year’s Galaxy Watch6 Classic.
this Galaxy Watch 7 It doesn’t offer many improvements over the Galaxy Watch 6 – it has twice the storage and a 30% more efficient processor, but the display is the same, as are the health tracking features.
Winner: Galaxy Tab S10 Ultra and S10+
Samsung’s top-tier tablets performed well, retaining second place in tablet shipments behind Apple. Its Galaxy tablets are versatile, feature stunning Super AMOLED displays and support S Pen.
Loser: Galaxy Z Fold6
Samsung’s book-style foldable phones have been unimpeded in markets outside of China for several years. But this is all changing rapidly. similar devices OnePlus Open and Google Pixel 9 Pro foldable phone Has a ratio Galaxy Z Fold6making them better at using folding and challenging it in every aspect. but Honor Magic V3 With its slimmer body and superior photography system, the Galaxy Z Fold6 looks bland.
Now that competition in the software department is catching up, Samsung needs to relaunch its Fold product line, and it needs to do it in 2025.
Winner: Galaxy Z Flip6
this Galaxy Z Flip6On the other hand, it’s noticeably better than its predecessor. It has improved battery life and zoom lens, and is the easier-to-fold option in many markets around the world this year. Competitors haven’t paid much attention to this segment yet, which does help.
Winner: Galaxy S24 Ultra
Every year, Samsung’s biggest winner is the Galaxy S Ultra, and 2024 is no exception. Samsung’s most popular and profitable phones in 2024 Galaxy S24 Ultra A 50MP 5x telephoto camera and the latest chipset have been added. The changes proved all that was needed – the phone sold in huge numbers and is one of the most popular flagships in people’s hands.
The Galaxy S24 Ultra isn’t without competition – Chinese flagships from the second half of the year beat it on camera and battery – but there are still few products that can challenge Samsung in global markets.
Still, Samsung may need to step up its flagship game, lest it become vulnerable like the Z Fold6.
