2025 could be the year of the robot lawn mower

Skeptics scoffed in 2002 when Roomba introduced homeowners to a robotic vacuum cleaner. That didn’t last long as the small, round device quickly became a fixture in millions of homes. Now the lawn care industry is hoping for the same revolution that robots will bring to the front yard.

Robotic lawnmowers aren’t new to CES, but they’re on the rise this year. Manufacturers hope that the convenience and leisure time they offer will be enough to attract American homeowners. And analysts say this could be the year they make a breakthrough.

The problem faced by manufacturers of these devices is similar to that faced by manufacturers of robotic vacuum cleaners at the beginning of this century. Would Americans welcome a robot into their home, and would these devices perform as well as existing models? The response for the vacuum industry has, of course, been resounding: the market is valued at $4.48 billion in 2021, with an expected annual growth rate of 23.4% through 2030.

Meanwhile, sales of robotic lawn mowers are growing. it is expected to reach According to Grand View Research, by 2032 they will amount to $10.62 billion with a projected growth rate of 12% per year.

At this year’s CES, Segway led the charge to bring robotic mowers into the mainstream. The company is showing off the Navimow X3 series, which can mow up to 2.5 acres, doubling the efficiency of the current model. It also boasts a trimmer, which means homeowners can not only avoid having to move up and down the yard in the heat of summer, but also avoid having to break out the edger to tidy up areas along fences and driveways.

“With over 200 robotic innovations. . . So far, we have reduced carbon dioxide emissions by more than 1.13 million kilograms equivalent,” says George Wren, CEO of Segway Navimow. “I believe the Segway Navimow X3 Series. . . “We will continue to make significant strides to transform traditional outdoor power tools into smart, automated solutions for American households.”

The Navinow X3 will also interface with smart home devices like Amazon Alexa and Google Home, meaning you can tell your lawn robot to get to work while you fetch another beer from the fridge.
