3 underrated Netflix shows you should watch this weekend (January 10-12)

While there are a lot of things we love about Netflix, one of the worst things about the streamer is how things can come and go even if they’re still available to watch. If something is not on the main page, it is almost impossible to know that it even exists.

This can make choosing the shows that are right for you a nearly impossible task. That’s why we’ve put together this list of three great underrated shows that are worth your time this weekend, no matter what your algorithm may say.

We also have guides to best movies on Netflix, best movies on Hulu, best movies on Amazon Prime Video, the best films about maxAnd best movies on Disney+.

American Primal (2025)

A new series that I hope will find a larger audience. American Primitive tells the story of a mother and son who find community amidst the brutality of the American West. Starring ShineBetty Gilpin, one of the greatest television actresses of the last 10 years, American Primitive is definitely brutal at times, but ultimately the show is about how the West can allow people to start over and escape what came before.

The ensemble cast also includes Taylor Kitsch, Shawnee Puryear, and Derek Hinckley, and most importantly, the series includes a Native American perspective that is not found in many other shows of its kind. Fans are looking for the next retro Yellowstone show like 1923 or 1883Although filled with horrific violence, it’s worth watching. American Primitive.

No Good Deed (2024)

Trailer “No Good Deeds” Season 1

In the era of high-concept miniseries, there’s something refreshingly simple about the approach that No good deed moves on to its central story. The series follows three different couples vying for the same 1920s Los Angeles villa, each believing the house is the answer to all their problems.

At the same time, a couple selling their home is reflecting on their decision to move and the recent death of their son. No good deed is a parody of California’s outrageous real estate market and features an ensemble cast that Friends star Lisa Kudrow, Everybody Loves RaymondRay Romano and others make every scene work.

Hollywood (2020)

HOLLYWOOD | Official trailer | Netflix

Ryan Murphy’s deal with Netflix wasn’t as big of a blow for the streamer as it could have been, and one of the creator’s biggest commercial failures was Hollywood. The series, which only ran for one season in 2020, follows a group of aspiring stars as they try to make it big in the years after World War II.

The series features real historical figures such as Anna May Wong and Hattie McDaniel, as well as fictional characters such as Jeremy Pope’s Archie Coleman. The series features a number of young talents who would go on to become major stars, e.g. David Corenswetwho will be the next Man of Steel in the upcoming Superman movie. Despite its shortcomings, the series still sheds an interesting and entertaining light on how racism and homophobia played out in this era of filmmaking in ways that were rarely addressed back then.
