8 Best Baby Carriers (2024): Wraps, Slings, and Packs
Not sure what type of transportation you need? Here’s a quick overview of baby carrier types to give you a better idea of how they differ.
Structured Carrier: These are your standard baby carriers that come with shoulder straps, a waist belt and a support pocket for your baby to sit in. All the positions your baby may want to take in those first few months. However, they are a bit large and bulky compared to lighter aircraft carriers.
Package carrier: They are used in baby clothing by simply wrapping your body and baby in a long strip of fabric. We found them comfortable and breathable, but they were less secure and supportive, and were really only easy to use if baby was very young. However, it can be a great, affordable solution for babies who just want to be held or held. It may require more of a learning curve to wrap correctly.
Ring sling: They are similar to wraps but use a single loop to hold the baby in a hip or inward-facing position. They are lightweight and breathable, but have a learning curve and feel slightly less secure than structured carriers. They do have more space than packing bags, though, and are easier to throw into a bag.
Toddler carrier: There are a variety of structured carriers that toddlers can fit into, depending on the child’s weight and size. But since toddlers are mobile, they usually don’t like being strapped to your chest like a baby (I know, I’m sad about it too). Another option is a toddler hip carrier and seat, where you attach the belt and have a small seat on top for your toddler to sit on.
