A new HomePod mini is coming, and it needs Apple Intelligence
Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman reported earlier today Apple has been developing a new HomePod mini for next year. While the report focuses on Apple’s new wireless chip, my only request is that Apple provide Apple Intelligence support for its future HomePod models.
HomePod and Apple Intelligence
I have HomePods everywhere in my house, and while they’re incredibly convenient thanks to their integration with AirPlay and Apple TV, there’s no denying that the Siri experience is still pretty frustrating. In addition to setting timers, Siri often made mistakes, even when playing songs or podcasts (the HomePod’s primary function).
This week, as iOS 18.2 is released to the public, Apple confirms Apple Music is getting a cautious but important update. Now, it will use natural language search to better understand what users are looking for. The search is processed online on Apple servers, which means it can also be used by Siri on HomePod.
This alone should make the experience of using Siri to change songs on HomePod better, but we need more. Apple promises new Siri experience that understands your personal context, coming next year iPhone, iPad,as well as apple. But the essence of HomePod is Siri, and it needs this experience.
If I could use it to ask questions about my day, even if my iPhone Not nearby.
Currently, the SoC used by HomePod is the same as apple watchwhich means they are not powerful enough to run Apple Intelligence. According to rumors, Apple has been developing a big-screen “HomePad” and chips capable of running artificial intelligence functions. However, I also expect Apple to bring more advanced chips to the regular HomePod.
But what about you? Do you also think Apple Intelligence for HomePod is a game changer? Let me know in the comments section below.
