Afeela EV: Sony and Honda Finally Set a Price and Start Taking Orders
If you’ve been waiting for an electric sedan with the soul of the PS5 Pro, I have great news. Sony Honda Mobility announced on its CES 2025 press conference to officially open pre-orders for the upcoming Afeela 1 EV. The sedan, which focuses on autonomy and entertainment, will cost $89,900 for the Origin version and $102,900 for the updated Signature model.
It’s “great” (ahem), as if we’ve been watching Sony’s upcoming EV reveal at CES for years now. Vision-S concept car first appeared on the scene in 2020, and the Afeela nameplate will be announced in 2023. Dual Sense controller for PS5 To pilot a car on stage and this year, summoning an electric vehicle via voice command highlighted the car’s personal agent, Afeela, an AI-powered digital assistant that you can talk to in and out of the car and get a response from.
However, the biggest news on Monday was the announcement of prices and the opening of pre-orders ahead of deliveries in the spring of 2026. The top-of-the-line Signature model, priced at $102,900, will be the first to be offered with a full array of technologies and options, from dual rear-seat entertainment systems, 21-inch wheels and a choice of gray, black and white exterior and interior color options. The $89,900 Origin models drop rear-seat screens, downsize to 19-inch wheels, and you can get them in any color you want, as long as it’s black. Deliveries of the less expensive version will begin in 2027.
Either way, Sony offers a 91-kilowatt-hour battery with an estimated range of up to 300 miles. NACS charging is standard at up to 150kW, and each example will come with the Afeela Intelligent Drive and Afeela Personal Assistant package. Of course, Sony’s massive dashboard display is also standard. Unreal engine graphics for maps, driver assistance systems and the main user interface.
Sony tells us that the Afeela EV will be equipped with 40 sensors for driver assistance systems and will provide what it calls “one-touch continuous autonomous driving.” Just get in the car and tell the car where to go and it will take you there while you watch content on the big screen. At least that’s what it seems: the automaker’s pre-order site currently lists only Level 2 autonomy.
Interested parties may retain their seat subject to a refundable deposit of $200 at Afeela booking site from Sony Honda Mobility. Too rich for your blood? (Or live outside of California?) You can still drive and test Sony and Honda electric cars in Gran Turismo 7 on PlayStation 5 for much less money.
