After conquering Sonic, the third film’s writers would love to have a go at making a Zelda movie based on a once divisive entry in the series
Team behind Sonic the Hedgehog 3 has proven that it knows how to make a video game movie, and now the writers have shared that they’d like to tackle a Zelda movie.
I think it’s a little surprising when I say this. Sonic the Hedgehog 3 (the movie, not the game) is actually pretty good considering the series’ long and checkered history. And yet here we are, with a film that manages to quite successfully adapt the wacky storyline from Sonic Adventure 2even if the odds were against it. Personally, I feel confident that the team behind this project would be quite good at some other game adaptations, and speaking to IGNThe film’s writers Pat Casey and Josh Miller shared some of the games they’d like to adapt, including another Sega title.

“We talked about Golden Ax,” Casey said. “Golden Ax was another good Genesis multiplayer game.” Miller suggested Boy and his dropand Casey added a slightly weirder game to the pile: “7-Up’s Dot Platformer Adventure Game,” or, to be precise, Cool Spot, a 1993 platformer themed around the red dot from the 7-Up logo. It’s the pair’s most serious offering though, and one that will probably perk up your ears more than Golden Ax and Cool Spot.
“I think another simple question that we can answer, because the movie is already happening and we’re not making it anymore, is Zelda,” Miller shared. “I always remember when we played Wind Waker, we always thought, man, I mean, it would probably be weird if they made a Zelda movie starting with Wind Waker rather than the more classic Hyrule. But we both loved Wind Waker and it’s so cinematic. So after they make a Zelda movie, I think we’ll release it, maybe we can do a Wind Waker spin-off.”
It’s an interesting choice, especially considering that Wind Waker was once more divisive, with some Zelda fans being put off by it due to its shadowed appearance. These days the game is loved in part for its appearance, but back in the day there were a large number of Zelda fans who didn’t like the change in appearance from a more serious look. Ocarina of Time and Majora’s Mask.
That said, Wind Waker would certainly be a fun adaptation, and while Nintendo is working on a game adaptationIn any case, I find it unlikely that it will be about Wind Waker (let’s just cross our fingers it’s not Wand of Gamelon, somehow).
