AGDQ’s best moments happen when you least expect them
Amazing games made quicklyannual charity speed running marathon is in full swinghas already raised over $500,000 for the Cancer Prevention Foundation. There are still three days left until the end, and there are a lot of popular games waiting for us. But relying on the schedule or your own preferences to determine when to tune in is a surefire way to miss out on the best that AGDQ has to offer.
Let’s take today for example. I’ve never played Batman Forever: The Arcade Gamebut after watching the speedrun I might have to. It’s a Batman-flavored beat-’em-up that bears very little resemblance to the film it’s based on. runner, LRock617decided to play as Robin, and within moments of starting the game I was hooked. The graphics were reminiscent of the earlier version. Mortal Kombat eligible games because they were published by Acclaim Entertainment. But there was a surreal quality to them that – coupled with Robin’s unstoppable powers (like the ones that cause him to essentially become a Super Saiyan), the runner’s charisma in explaining what’s going on, and the audience enjoying of funny donation messages—let me do some absurd stupidity that was a much-needed shot in the arm at 9 a.m. on a Wednesday. And if I didn’t have the marathon running in the background, I would have missed it.
Games Done Quick’s schedule is designed to ensure that the most popular games or unusual races take place in the early evenings and weekends – times when people are most likely to tune in. But I’ve found that some of my favorite runs are games that I’ve never heard played well outside of prime time hours. I have developed a deep and abiding love for Mr. Bonesa Sega Saturn game that I’ve never played because I found it during an attack of insomnia that occurred on January 6. Ratatouille running from Summer Games Done Quick 2023one from that year stand–outside runs, occurred on Tuesday at 11 am.
Keeping GDQ on all the time is more than just entertainment. This is a good way to find your next indie game. I didn’t know that I can have pizza it was, but after I’m watching a speedrunit’s on my list of co-op games to try at home. AGDQ still has a lot to enjoy. Eat New Super Mario Bros. Wii a race that will play while the runner plays the piano and I can’t wait Crazy Taxi run, which will be accompanied by a live band playing covers of songs from the game. But I’m even more excited to find the next hidden gem of the marathon completely by accident.
