Access to distance learning should not depend on access to the latest technology or a stable internet connection. That’s why I created EstudIA: a Learning Management System (LMS) that operates entirely through SMS and color mail. Powered by Cerebras’ fast inference system, Twilio, LangChain and Redis, EstudIA provides an alternative to remote learning for communities where network access is scarce or non-existent.
How EstudiA works
At its core, EstudIA turns text-enabled mobile phones into educational tools. Its functions are as follows:
Create a category:
Teachers send subject names and initial topics to EstudIA via SMS to generate learning materials and exams using artificial intelligence powered by Cerebras. Create a unique class code and share it with students.
Join a class:
Students register by texting their class code. EstudIA then sends them the first reading via text message.
Learn and interact:
Students receive brief lessons and tests. They reply via text message and Cerebras provides instant feedback.
Instructors can dynamically update course topics or materials to ensure courses remain relevant.
Evaluation and feedback:
AI-generated exams test students’ understanding, and scores are sent back via text, making the entire process seamless and interactive
Technology stack
Building EstudIA involves integrating powerful and easy-to-use tools:
Treviglio: Handles SMS/MMS communications for reliable two-way interaction between students and teachers.
Cerebras + LangChain: Produce study materials and exams tailored to each topic, ensuring the quality of the content.
Reddis: Manage real-time data, track student progress, and cache frequently accessed content for fast response time. I also use Redis because I like learning new things and it’s very easy to use, which is always good.
Thanks brain!
Cerebras is an incredible promoter of this project. This PoC was created with its fast inference system at the core of research material generation. Implementing their technology during the initial development phase of EstudIA was truly great and seamless.
