AirPods Pro 3: Three new features are coming this year

New H3 chip

Sometimes, new Apple chips offer only limited improvements. We’ve seen this with the M-series chips in Macs and iPads, the A-series chips in iPhones, and even the S-Class chips in the Apple Watch.

But so far, AirPods’ H-series chips have been upgraded significantly.

This is no doubt due to the extended development time between updates. Before AirPods Pro 2 launched H2, the H1 chip in AirPods Pro had been around for three years. Now, when the AirPods Pro 3 launch, the H3 chip will have to wait another three years.

Here’s how Apple explained the H2’s capabilities when the AirPods Pro 2 debuted:

We’ve also seen the H2 roll out multiple new feature updates over the past few years, so there’s no doubt that the H3 will unlock a ton of new features of its own when it comes to market.

My personal wish: Extended battery life.

New AirPods Pro 3 design

Unfortunately, that’s all the information we have about the redesign right now.

I don’t expect there to be major changes, as the design of the AirPods Pro is generally popular and even inspired a redesign AirPods 4.

However, there may be some small changes in stem size or fit in the ears.

Upgraded noise reduction function

One of the biggest selling points of the AirPods Pro 2 (at least for me) is its improved active noise cancellation (ANC).

Apple said, at least one reportplans to bring similar upgrades to its next-generation AirPods Pro models.

According to reports, the new ANC of AirPods Pro 3 will be “much better” than the existing feature, which is undoubtedly supported by the new features of the H3 chip.

Wildcard: New health features

I’m giving this as a wildcard bonus because it’s less certain, but Gurman recent reports Three or more health features are in development for future AirPods models:

• Heart rate monitoring, similar to the functions provided by Apple Watch
• Temperature sensing
• Plus new sensors could enable “a range of physiological measurements”

Of this list, Gurman believes heart rate monitoring should be ready to ship with the AirPods Pro 3.

However, it may be delayed due to health features that often require extra caution, care, and even regulatory approval.

Apple recently launched The first health function iOS 18.1 is available for AirPods Pro 2, but it sounds like there’s more features on the way.

The AirPods Pro 2 are one of Apple’s best products, and the three-year gap between updates only builds anticipation for a successor. Since I was satisfied with the AirPods Pro 2, there was no doubt that the AirPods Pro 3 would be an immediate buy for me.
