The YouTuber tested the chip on an ASUS Prime X870E motherboard with 32GB of 6400MHz memory and an RTX 4060. Despite not appearing in the motherboard’s CPU support list, the YouTuber reports that the chip boots up without any issues and works perfectly with his Asus X870E motherboard.
The games tested are Cyberpunk 2077, Stalker 2, Indiana Jones and the Circle, Doctors Without Borders 2024, Red Dead Redemption 2, Counter-Strike 2and fort night. With RTX 4060, Cyberpunk 2077 At 1080p high quality, the average frame rate was 87 FPS, with the lowest frame rate being 1% of the range of 62.6 FPS. In the vast majority of games tested, the EPYC 4124P was able to keep the RTX 4060 running without encountering any major CPU bottlenecks. Most of the time, the RTX 4060 is at peak utilization, while the 4124P’s average CPU usage is between 75% and 90%.
However, the RTX 4060 appears to be the maximum that the EPYC 4124P can reliably handle without being too CPU intensive. The YouTuber also tested the quad-core chip using the RTX 4070 Super in several games at 1440p resolution and found that the CPU was starting to struggle to keep up with the demands of the more powerful GPU. For example, in Red Dead Redemption 2 At 1440p ultra, the 4070 Super could only reliably reach around 90% GPU utilization, while CPU utilization was consistently below 80%. CS2 The worst part is that the 4070 Super can only maintain around 50% to 75% utilization.
4124P may not appear in our list Best CPU for gamingbut it can clearly work in demanding AAA games. At $149 it might not be the best deal, but it’s certainly worth it for those who choose to run games on this little chip.
