Android lock screen clock could be getting some new options
Ryan Haines / Android Authority
long story short
- Google is preparing to add more granular controls for the size of the clock on the lock screen.
- We discovered a new UI that lets you customize the thickness, width, roundness, and tilt of the current clock style on the lock screen.
- This feature is not yet enabled in the latest Android beta, but we managed to partially launch it to get a feel for what’s coming soon.
last year’s Android 14 The update introduces some exciting new customization features for Pixel users: the ability to customize the lock screen. Android 14 not only adds the ability to customize the two shortcuts at the bottom of the lock screen, but also adds the ability to change the clock style. Google currently offers nine clock styles that can be slightly customized in terms of color and size, but the company hopes to provide more refined designs for these size options in future versions of Android.

We’re currently digging into the second beta for next season’s release Android 15 Just released by Google. While looking at the updates, we noticed that Android 15 QPR2 Beta 2 continues to be worked on New version of Pixel Wallpaper app We first found out in August. The new version of the Pixel wallpaper app isn’t live yet in the latest beta, but Google has made some progress to bring it closer to release. For example, we noticed that the clock style options are now populated correctly in the new version of the app, as shown below.
However, the ability to change the lock screen clock size is still missing in this version. That’s because Google is preparing to add a new page for customizing the lock screen clock size, which will let you adjust the thickness, width, roundness, and tilt. This page can be accessed by clicking on the new pencil/edit button that appears at the top of each lock screen clock style card. While we can’t display this pencil/edit button, we are able to manually launch the new lock screen clock size page, as shown in the video below:
While some options don’t work (notably the roundness and tilt toggles), this suggests Google is preparing to offer more granular control over the size of the locked screen clock. In contrast, the current version of the Pixel Wallpaper app only allows you to choose between two different lock screen clock options:
- Dynamic: Clock size changes based on lock screen content
- Small: A small clock will be displayed in the corner of the lock screen
One thing we don’t know is whether these new clock size options will apply to all available clock styles. It’s likely that these options are only available for relatively simple designs, but we’re not sure.
We also don’t know when Google plans to launch this new version of the Pixel Wallpapers app, but it’s looking more and more like it’s not just a complete visual overhaul, but a major upgrade in customizability. We previously discovered that the new version of the app will also bring back Icon shape customizationthis feature is also not yet enabled in the latest version.
