Aorus reveals a next-gen gaming PC concept – Project Cielo

Out of the blue, Aorus has unveiled its next-generation gaming PC concept, Project Cielo. It certainly looks different thanks to its triangular stacking structure, and it’s said to be modular too. But is this really the “future of gaming”?

When it comes to concept PCs, Gigabyte/Aorus could be forgiven for being a little light on the details. There aren’t really any specifications to share. At first glance I thought there might be three separate modular segments of the concept design; CPU, GPU and power/storage – something like that. However, Aorus’ vision and modular design are anything but; As shown in the picture, the concept consists of “a main system, a battery pack and a Bluetooth speaker.” If you look closely at the images, you can see that the module descriptions apply from top to bottom. On top of the main system unit of the PC you will also see the angel wings of the 5G antenna.

It seems that Aorus believes that 5G is very important for the future of gaming PCs. “Compared with traditional wired or wireless 4G networks, 5G makes PC gaming possible on the go, offering higher bandwidth, ultra-low latency, and near-instant access to cloud gaming,” the company explains in its report. press release about the Cielo project. So in the future, PC games will rely more on excellent connectivity rather than exceptional in-body processing power – which seems to be Aorus’s point of view, which is a little strange to be promoted by Gigabyte’s PC gaming wing. For such portable entertainment, why not use a 5G portable tablet instead, with the big bonus of having a screen.

In its product description, Aorus shows an even looser connection to modern gaming PC concepts: “Users can combine either of the two parts and satisfy their gaming, entertainment, or other mobile application needs.” So this concept PC doesn’t even need a computer…

This may be one of the first concept modular PCs of recent years, which I have no hopes or enthusiasm for. So it’ll likely be one of the first to make it past concept and into retail, but fingers crossed it doesn’t show up at CES 2022.
