Apple exec talks AirPods Pro’s hearing aid features in interview

According to Herrlinger (via Forbes), a new hearing aid feature launched this year AirPods Pro 2 Reinforces Apple’s “long-term commitment” to making technology accessible to everyone. The executive said that more than 1.5 billion people worldwide suffer from hearing loss, and the company’s own research shows that 75% of them “do not receive the auxiliary support they need.”

Herrlinger noted that Apple was the first company to use Bluetooth LE for audio, which led to the first LEA (Low Energy Audio) protocol to transmit audio from smartphones to hearing aids. “Since then, we’ve introduced awareness and hearing assistance features such as headphone audio levels, headphone adjustments and conversation enhancement,” she said.

The executive believes that the technology is built into AirPods Pro 2 It is an “unprecedented end-to-end hearing health experience” and is the result of “years of study” by Apple software engineers, acoustic experts, designers and others. By transforming wireless headphones into assistive hearing devices, Apple brings “clinical-grade” functionality to anyone over 18 years old.

At the beginning of this month, Herrlinger speaks at Lisbon Internet Summit 2024. She highlighted how Apple is using artificial intelligence to improve the lives of people with disabilities through technologies such as eye tracking, voice recognition and AssistiveTouch.
