Apple Intelligence now requires almost double the iPhone storage it needed before
Apple information is coming Compatible iPhone, iPad and Mac Through a phased rollout. Both iOS 18.1 and iOS 18.2 introduce new features. Now, we know exactly how much these extra features cost in terms of iPhone storage.
Apple Intelligence now requires 7GB of available storage per device
when first wave Apple Intelligence features are rolling out in iOS 18.1, Apple has released various requirements for use.
These requirements include 4GB of available iPhone storage space space.
This makes sense because one of the Privacy features One thing about Apple Intelligence is that most of its features are preset to run on the device. To do this, your device will need to download an AI model, which will take up space on your storage.
We’ve always known that the need for 4GB would increase over time as more AI features were rolled out.
But now we know it has almost doubled After iOS 18.2 is released.
According to the Apple websiteApple Intelligence now requires 7GB Free storage space.
Whether you’re using an iPhone, iPad, or Mac, the same 7GB capacity applies.
But since each product has its own on-device processing, it’s also suitable for multi-device use.
If you want to use AI capabilities on all three devices (which I assume most of us do), there are a total of 21GB Free space being used by Apple Intelligence.
Unfortunately, if you’re tight on storage space, you can’t reduce requirements by disabling certain features.
Why requirements are increasing, and what to expect in the future
iOS 18.2 introduces important new artificial intelligence features, including:
Looking through this list, I see why storage needs must increase.
But as more Apple Intelligence features continue to be rolled out, the need for device storage will be greater than ever.
Looking ahead, Apple doesn’t appear to be adding new artificial intelligence features to iOS 18.3 so far, but the new beta could change that.
However, in iOS 18.4 released in April, some Big changes to Siri Coming soon. The Siri upgrade will undoubtedly raise the 7GB requirement even higher.
In the next few months, before any new features of iOS 19 debut, we may consider the 10GB per device requirement.
Big takeaway? Maybe it’s time to start upgrading from the standard storage tier you chose when buying your next iPhone, iPad, or Mac.
