Apple is developing a new smart home doorbell to compete with products like Ring, according to a report by Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman. It will offer “advanced facial recognition” and integrate wirelessly with smart home locks.
Apple already offers many third-party HomeKit locks on its online store, but a doorbell with facial recognition would be a new venture. Gurman reports that the doorbell can automatically unlock your home simply by scanning your face:
The idea is that the doorbell could automatically unlock the door for residents by scanning their face—much like Face ID lets them access their iPhone.
