Apple’s adding new AirTag warning labels after violating safety requirement
Apple’s AirTags also have certain security issues, most of which are related to tracking and other issues. But now, the company has added new warning labels after encountering battery-related violations.
New AirTag warning labels aim to protect children
U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) Press release issued today It outlines Apple’s AirTag violations and the fixes Apple has reportedly implemented (Via macReports).
The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission notified Apple that AirTags violated the warning requirements related to Reese’s Law.
Essentially, the law requires products that use button or button batteries to include warning labels “to protect children from life-threatening hazards if ingested.”
Apple’s AirTags, a popular tracking device, meet performance requirements to protect AirTags’ lithium coin cell batteries; however, devices imported after the Riese Act’s effective date of March 19, 2024, do not have the required on-product and on-box warnings. Note that if these small batteries are not kept out of reach, serious injury may result from ingestion of the batteries.
Apple has now added warning symbols inside the battery box and has changed its packaging to include the required warning statements and symbols. Because many violative devices have been sold to consumers, and to assist consumers in the future, Apple has updated the instructions that appear in the Find My app each time a user is prompted to replace an AirTag battery to now include a warning about the following issues : Button batteries and the dangers of button batteries.
It’s unclear exactly when the AirTags hardware changes occurred, but there are presumably now AirTags available for purchase that include new warning labels on the box and inside the device.
Adding warnings to the Find My app is also a great solution for everyone who has older AirTag devices. maybe they arrive together AirTag’s new features in iOS 18.2.
Are you seeing new warning labels in AirTag or the Find My app? Let us know in the comments.
