Apple’s next iPhone app could be an easy way to manage event invitations
According to report from 9to5MacApple may develop a new “Invites” app to manage event invitations. The site discovered code related to “Apple Invites” back in beta versions of iOS 18.2, which disappeared from the final version, but reappeared in second beta version of iOS 18.3.
As 9to5Mac explains, the app seems pretty simple: It displays a list of people invited to a specific event, as well as those who have confirmed their attendance. Other similar applications such as Avoid or Invited also allows you to create invitations and send them to people, which Invites will apparently also be able to do.
Reviewing the code, 9to5Mac believes the app will offer some additional functionality (and almost certainly a more interesting interface) than simply inviting people to a calendar invite. It will be integrated with iCloud and will have a web version on iCloud.com. The app uses the new GroupKit framework, which has been present since the release of iOS 18.0 but is not used by any Apple apps.
The code does not indicate whether Invites will be a separate app or a smaller feature of Calendar or iMessages, such as Register. It’s also unclear if or when it will ever appear – it was not part of any previous announcement and could simply be an experiment or some development of a feature that is supposed to be part of iOS 19.
Apple is expected to release iOS 18.3 in late January or early February, with iOS 19 unveiled at WWDC in June.
