Arlo’s monthly subscriptions are going up again
Arlo raises monthly subscription prices for its smart home cameras again Arlo Secure Cloud Storage Plan. The company now charges $9.99 per month to store recordings from a single camera (up from $7.99) and $19.99 per month (up from $17.99) for unlimited cameras. Both are now named Secure Plus instead of the cheaper plan Arlo Secure.
The cheapest Secure plan costs $9.99 per month, which is now more than triple the $2.99 per month Arlo used to charge to store footage from a single camera in the cloud. The company raised that price to $4.99 in early 2023 and then to $7.99 last year. Billed annually, the single camera package still costs $7.99 per month, while the unlimited camera package is effectively $17.99 per month if you pay for a year upfront.
The latest round of price increases was announced in Arlo A new set of artificial intelligence capabilities September. These capabilities include allowing users to name specific people or vehicles seen by the camera and get notifications about them, or train the camera to detect and notify them of events such as sprinklers turning on or a garage door opening. The company also doubled the number of days it stores recordings, from 30 to 60 days.
According to screenshots, Arlo is offering at least some users the ability to keep their old rates by switching to an annual plan Post to Arlo subreddit.
Users can still get free storage space by using Arlo Base stations and SmartHub devices Compatible with their cameras. However, going this route also means missing out on some of the subscription-only features that make smart cameras attractive, such as package detection.
