Assassin’s Creed Shadows’ Naoe has her own speedy “Naruto run”
Assassin’s Creed ShadowsNaoe is the “fastest killer” in the history of the legendary franchise.
This was stated by creative director Jonathan Dumont. Entertainment Weekly that she would have a Naruto run in which she would “lean forward with her arms bent and run at full speed.”
“We have a run on top of buildings that’s a little bit like that,” Dumont said.
“Naoe is the fastest assassin we have ever created,” he added. “She runs very fast and has a lot of gadgets that help her stay hidden so she doesn’t have to fight as much. We wanted to cater to that for players who come to this ninja assassin game.”
Dumont didn’t go into further plot points, but said, “She’ll go on some sort of journey of revenge or fulfilling a promise she made to her family. When she discovers a world in need of help, she begins to truly appreciate the Community Values her father taught her.
“Can she make the world a better place? [She realises] these are people who cannot defend themselves, which is largely due to the models [Assassin] Brotherhood.
“[Naoe] her father shielded her from what was happening in the world and everything was falling apart,” Dumont added. “She’s caught up in a war. She knows little about her origins. She was trained by her father, but knows little about her mother, who is gone. But as the cool Japanese proverb goes, “a frog in a well knows nothing of the sea.”
“She is thrown into the real world and through this she learns that she is not just a shinobi, that there is some bloodline or at least some secret in some other type of shinobi. Assassins, so she has something to do with it.”
According to Dumont, Naoe received her Hidden Blade from her father.
Interestingly, while Naoe is very stealthy and can perform his signature Leap of Faith if there is a suitable pile of brush or hay nearby, co-leader Yakuke cannot.
“He’s not taking a Leap of Faith,” Dumont said. “He just crashed straight into a haystack and hurt his butt in the process. So it’s pretty funny.”
This dual perspective is designed to provide fans both old and new Assassin’s Creed Games satisfied.
“A lot of people like Assassin to start with a stealth approach: hiding in the shadows and crowds. Then we have a little more action-oriented games… Odyssey, Origins and Valhalla,” Dumont added. “We try to cater to both types of players, but we also try not to dilute too much of what they love about it.”
We also recently learned that Assassin’s Creed Shadows will take a new approach to branching stories and offer a mode “that allows for choice-free storytelling.”
In response to fan questions about how the game will balance the ability to make narrative decisions with fans’ desire for a unified view of how Shadows’ “historical” narrative unfolds, Dumont said that the game will have a “canonical mode.”.
Last month Eurogamer has learned from Assassin’s Creed boss Marc-Alexis Coté about how the franchise will move forward with a more cohesive and well-thought-out story. – and how the modern part of it will now feel more whole after years of being treated as an afterthought.
