Astrill is considered by some to be a premium VPN that users can use to gain a greater degree of access. Online privacy and security. It is priced accordingly. I found it to be more expensive than competing solutions. The company is registered in Seychelles, which helps it bypass many of the regulatory hurdles VPN companies encounter when turning over data to government agencies.

Astrill VPN Pricing

Astrill costs $30 per month, $15 per month for a one-year subscription, and $12.50 per month for a two-year subscription. There is another Free VPN For use on an Android device. Business plans range from $8 to $18 per account per month for 10 to 200 accounts. Astrill VPN allows unlimited device connections per subscription, but I found that only five devices could connect at the same time.

Astrill VPN’s main features

Data security

Astrill VPN’s data security features include a kill switch, so if the VPN is disconnected, all web activity is shut down and all browsers are closed. Additionally, multi-hop encryption protects data even as it passes through a large number of servers. The company uses several types of encryption, including OpenWeb, StealthVPN, and Wireguard. Dedicated IP addresses are used when users want to resolve issues that some email providers and websites cause problems with shared IP addresses.

While security features vary by provider, when I looked into competitors like NordVPN, ExpressVPN, and ProtonVPN in my Astrill VPN review, I found that they generally offer a wider range of security features.

anonymous

Astrill VPN’s location has been carefully chosen because it is outside the jurisdiction of countries that require VPN providers to hand over personal data in compliance with the Five Eyes, Nine Eyes and Fourteen Eyes surveillance alliances (collectively known as the Eyes Alliance). Some other VPNs are located in jurisdictions that are forced to hand over user data in certain circumstances.

NordVPN and CyberGhost offer similar levels of anonymity as Astrill VPN, while Surfshark and Private Internet Access can sometimes be open to prying eyes. I like Astrill VPN and it even has some success in China, which is better than most other VPNs, although performance and connectivity can be spotty in the region.

Access Netflix

Netflix and others Streaming services This makes life difficult for VPNs, and many VPNs fail to work when trying to use Netflix outside of their approved geographical areas. VPNs such as NordVPN, ExpressVPN, and Surfshark all offer Netflix access, but TunnelBear, Mozilla VPN, and Perfect Privacy do not. Astrill VPN sometimes offers Netflix access, depending on the server you use. You might get lucky.

speed

Astrill promised me fast download and upload speeds, and it delivered. Speed tests show it is well ahead of ExpressVPN and Surfshark. It even beat NordVPN, a VPN that generally has a reputation for being the fastest, in some tests. However, speeds vary, which VPN users may mean Apps run slower Compared to operating on the web without a VPN.

NorthVPN

Picture: NordVPN

NordVPN offers high performance, sometimes comparable to Astrill VPN. Its thousands of VPN networks around the world far exceed those of Astrill VPN. Both are in a similar price range and both offer a ton of security features, although NordVPN has Broadest security. Astrill VPN allows five simultaneous connections, while NordVPN offers six. Neither is under the jurisdiction of the surveillance alliance.

surf shark

Pictured: Surf Shark

Surfshark offers many of AstrillVPN’s features at a lower price, and I noticed that its server network is 10 to 1 larger than Astrill VPN’s. Since Surfshark is based in the Netherlands, it could fall victim to snooping from various countries that like to snoop on web traffic. Surfshark also has a nice set of security features and is fast, but not as fast as Astrill VPN. But where Surfshark really shines is As far as price is concerned. For a few dollars per user per month, you can buy a VPN that’s not too far off from Astrill VPN.

ExpressVPN

Picture: ExpressVPN

ExpressVPN is much cheaper than Astrill VPN, but not as cheap as Surfshark. It offers a ton of security features, an extensive server network, a plethora of apps, and works on nearly every platform and device. Like Astrill VPN, it is not under the jurisdiction of any monitoring alliance.

methodology

I gathered the information for this Astrill VPN review from analyst reports, TechRepublic and TechnologyAdvice reviews, and various peer reviews. This includes a thorough evaluation of its functionality, cost, and actual performance. They are also compared to leading alternatives like ExpressVPN, NordVPN, and Surfshark.

ExpressVPN and NordVPN received a score of 4 out of 5 for their rich feature set, large number of servers around the world, and overall value. Surfshark scores slightly lower than these two, mainly because it belongs to the Eyes Alliance. Again, Astrill VPN scores slightly lower than NordVPN and ExpressVPN due to price and the relatively limited number of servers available compared to other VPNs.
