Aunty Donna’s “Christmas Pud” is the best part of the holidays

Australian comedy group aunt donna Since their inception in 2011, there have been a ton of great videos produced and even a six-part Netflix series, but as far as I’m concerned, nothing celebrates them more than Christmas puddingor commonly known as, Christmas pudding. In “Always Room for Christmas Pud,” the trio get through each other’s troubles by goading each other on in an over-the-top sarcastic way that we often treat our loved ones during the holidays. It’s both completely realistic and completely surreal.

My fellow Americans might note that what they are eating is definitely not pudding, or at least we know it isn’t pudding. In former British colonies like England and Australia, pudding was more of a fruity baked pastry, similar to fruitcake, and the gooey stuff we call pudding was often called custard. Aunt Donna is not only hilarious, but also educational.

I was first introduced to Auntie Donna and the “Always Room for Christmas Pud” a few years ago by my former Kotaku colleague and renowned Australian Luke Plunkett. Since then, I can’t go a day between Thanksgiving and New Years without watching this video at least once. It’s almost like Luke cursed me. I’m scared of what will happen if I don’t watch “Always Room for Christmas Pud” for a day. Maybe by writing about it here, I’m spreading the memetic infection to everyone who reads this blog, e.g. ring. Am I finally free?

Regardless, it’s fun enough to not get annoying on repeat viewings, and my family just hates it when I keep incorporating lines from the film into everyday conversations. Check it out and maybe share it with a friend too…just to be safe.
