Battlefield 2042 adds five specialists in wake of beta feedback
Earlier this month, EA/DICE launched the Battlefield 2042 beta program, and now they’ve been processing the results and feedback to come to some meaningful conclusions. conclusions and a sensible way forward. The beta provided access to massive Battlefield battles for 128 players competing in large and small squads on a large map located in French Guiana, dubbed “Orbital”.
One of the most controversial decisions made by the developers in 2042 was the abandonment of the traditional Battlefield character class system and the introduction of specialists. In a blog post about the beta testing results, the developers take the position that Specialists are an evolution of the class system. However, there were some complaints that it simply did not provide the same degree of teamwork synergy as the earlier class system in the Battlefield games before it.
EA/DICE believes that perceptions will change once all ten of its specialists are revealed, effectively putting “all the cards on the table.” The first five specialists (each with their own specialization and trait) broadly covered the traditional classifications of Assault, Medic, Support and Recon, as well as flexible configurations for further nuances. The new specialists, which double the number of players to 10, are detailed in the video attached below.
- Navi Rao is an intelligence officer, cyber warfare (weapons and technology hacking) specialist and Trojan network devil.
- Santiago “Bulldozer” Espinoza is a stormtrooper with a ballistic shield specialty and blast resistance trait.
- Emma “Sundance” Rosier is a stormtrooper with a specialty in smart explosives and a wingsuit trait.
- Ji-Soo Paik is a scout with a hostile location scanner and threat perception highlighting function.
- Constantine “Angel” Angel is a support, with a gear box specialization (resupply) and a trauma specialist trait (healing).
Dedicated Battlefield 2042 specialists page has been updated with all the new specialists, so you can jump over and take stock.
EA/DICE made a number of other significant changes after beta testing based on user feedback and bug reports. Key changes to expect include the UI, maps, movement system, mission entry and exit points, accessibility, as well as many code-side and server-side adjustments.
The developers also want to highlight to beta testers who may have been underwhelmed by the action that the full game will feature fully customizable downloads, with more specialized hardware available as we progress.
To sum it up, DICE listened very carefully to player feedback, but in reality it was a mountain of feedback that needed to be processed and taken into account. Hope this was enough to help Battlefield 2042 for mass consumption on November 19…
