Best Home Security Cameras for Apple HomeKit and Siri in 2025
Camera quality
Camera resolution and field of view are critical to getting all the details you need from a security camera. Higher resolutions such as 2K and fields of view greater than 130 degrees are signs of a good home security camera. It would be a plus if the cameras could pan and tilt to capture additional areas. This goes hand in hand with the quality of the application, which must provide a seamless and highly detailed real-time viewing experience on demand.
Design quality
We favor cams that are rugged and compact in design and can be placed or mounted in a variety of positions for quick installation. Design can also add value to a camera – the ability to turn on a floodlight or sound a siren can be very useful for home security. Likewise, motion detection features should be customizable with parameters such as motion zones and privacy zones to reduce false alerts and motion sensitivity. You can customize your settings until you get exactly the notifications you want.
Wired and wireless
Wired cameras don’t require charging and tend to be a little more affordable, but they are more limited in placement and require more work to install outdoors. Wireless cameras are easier to place and avoid cable hassles, but you will have to charge or replace the batteries, usually every few months or so. We generally favor wireless cameras whenever possible, but wired cameras can be a useful choice, especially for models like video doorbells that can be connected to existing doorbell wiring.
Audio
Smart home security cameras should provide two-way audio, allowing for quick communication via an app. Apple’s HomePod line doesn’t have two-way audio capabilities, but they can work through other apps.
Object recognition
Object recognition is the ability to distinguish between objects such as people, pets, vehicles and packages, and then send you customized alerts or ignore certain objects. This is a very important feature for modern security cameras, but sometimes it is blocked by subscriptions.
Video storage
Video storage is not an absolute requirement, but we highly recommend being able to save, download and share video with any camera. Sometimes this feature is blocked by a cloud storage subscription like iCloud+, but other times you have the option of local storage with a microSD card or similar setup. Local storage is more expensive to set up, but avoids the use of the cloud and subscription fees if you want to avoid it.
Additional smart home support
Our listing is guaranteed to be supported by Apple. You may need cameras with additional smart home support, such as those that work with Alexa or Google Home. If you have an existing security system, consider a device that can be integrated into your existing control panel or applications.
