this Bigme HiBreak Pro It is a combination of a smartphone and an e-book reader. It has a 6.13-inch, 824 x 1648 pixel black and white e-ink display with 300 pixels per inch, making the device a pocket e-reader, sort of like Onyx BOOX Parma Series. But unlike the Palma, the HiBreak Pro is a mature smartphone.

Not only does it run Android, but it also supports 4G and 5G cellular networks. Bigme HiBreak Pro should be available for purchase soon, and customers who want to “pre-order” can Pay $5 now and get $30 off Retail price is $439.

Bigme has launched a number of e-book readers and E Ink tablets in recent years, and launched the original Bigme HiBreak smartphone in early 2024, with a choice of color or grayscale E Ink displays.

The new HiBreak Pro has a larger, higher-resolution display, faster processor, more memory and storage, larger battery, faster charging, and a higher-resolution rear camera. It also runs a newer version of Android.

Bigme has also added support for adjustable color temperature for the frontlight, allowing you to choose warm or cool tones to increase or decrease the amount of blue light hitting the screen. But so far, the company has only launched a grayscale version of the new phone: no color display option.

It’s unclear from the product page whether the HiBreak Pro has a microSD card reader: the original HiBreak supported removable cards up to 1TB. But with twice the onboard storage capacity, this might not be a problem.

While you can take photos, record videos, or make video calls using the 20MP rear camera and 5MP front camera, I still doubt you’ll want to do much of those things on a phone with a black and white e-ink display. But you can use the rear camera as a document scanner – HiBreak Photo can use optical character recognition to convert images into editable files. There’s also a text-to-speech feature for listening to e-books or other texts.

Although not all Android apps will work properly on the E Ink display, Bigme says the phone comes pre-installed with the Google Play Store. This means you should be able to install and try most Android apps. Bigme said that compared to other E Ink monitors, its “SSS-level super refresh mode” can bring faster screen refresh rates, smoother scrolling and “minimal ghosting”.
