Bloomberg: Apple ‘investigating’ bringing cellular to the Mac for the first time

Earlier today, Bloomberg Detailed Apple has been planning for years to ditch Qualcomm and roll out its own modem technology in iPhones and iPads.
in a Follow-up report this afternoon, Bloomberg As part of these efforts, Apple is also “investigating the idea of bringing cellular connectivity to Macs for the first time,” it said.
Apple is expected to launch the first version of its cellular modem next year in the iPhone SE 4, iPhone 17 Air and base model iPads. The following year, it will launch a higher-end version of the chip with faster 5G connection speeds for the iPhone 18 Pro.
As part of this shift, Apple is also looking into bringing cellular technology to Macs as early as 2026:
With its own modem, Apple is exploring the idea of bringing cellular connectivity to Macs for the first time. This means that users do not need Wi-Fi to access the Internet. So far, the feature has been reserved for iPhone, Apple Watch and iPad. But cellular connectivity is unlikely to appear on Macs before 2026, when Apple plans to launch a second-generation modem that supports faster speeds.
Additionally, a cellular version of Vision Pro is also under consideration:
The company is also discussing bringing cellular support to the headphones, including future models of the Vision Pro. The technology may one day also be used in lightweight augmented reality glasses, although such devices are still years away.
