long story short

  • Google is preparing to improve the Bluetooth device details page to display a small ring indicating the current battery level of the connected device.
  • This change has not yet taken effect in the latest Android 15 QPR2 Beta 1 build, but we managed to activate it manually.
  • Since the release of Android 8 Oreo in 2017, Android has supported reading the battery level of connected Bluetooth devices.

Many Bluetooth devices, e.g. wireless headphonesproviding no visual indication of its current battery level. Fortunately, the Bluetooth specification provides a standardized way for Bluetooth devices to share their current battery level with any device they are connected to. Android has supported displaying the battery level of connected Bluetooth devices for years, but in the next quarterly release, Google hopes to make some improvements to the way battery level is displayed.

While delving into the first beta update for the upcoming Season 2 build Android 15In other words, in Android 15 QPR2 Beta 1, we find that Google is working hard to adjust the Bluetooth device details page Settings > Connected devices. The company is preparing to update the page to display a small ring indicating the current battery level of the connected device. The ring doesn’t add any new features, as it’s based on the same battery level information that Android has shown since Android 8 Oreoincluded on the page showing the ring.

As you can see, the improved Bluetooth device details page has rings around each earbud and case. When I took these screenshots, the earphones and charging case had 95% battery power, which was reflected on the battery indicator ring.

It’s a minor tweak that few people will notice unless they do a direct side-by-side comparison with an older version of Android, but I’m glad Google is making an effort anyway. Small changes like this make Android feel like a polished, mature operating system.

While this change technically isn’t live yet, I bet Google will enable it soon, possibly in the next Android 15 QPR2 Beta or the next developer preview of Android 16. Android 16 Release, small UI tweaks like this may be part of those plans.
