BMW Unveils Next-Gen iDrive With Panoramic Vision And ‘OS X’ At CES 2025

IN CES 2025, BMW presented a new driving and user experience by demonstrating a near-production version of the new BMW iDrive. The centerpiece of this innovation is a revolutionary head-up display that spans the entire width of the windshield and offers customizable driver-focused information. The system is powered by BMW X operating systemrefined, Android based software designed to integrate physical and digital controls and will debut in BMW models from the end of 2025.

BMW Panoramic Vision Projects important driving data directly into the driver’s field of vision, allowing passengers to view personalized content. In addition to this is BMW 3D Head-Up Displaywhich integrates navigation and driving assistance functions to provide a consistent display. The system also includes a central display with advanced touch controls, a multifunction steering wheel with haptic feedback and a ‘shy’ approach to minimize distraction.

The BMW X operating system enhances personalization and ease of use. Drivers can customize display content, control ambient lighting and upload personal images. The system also integrates BMW’s next-level Intelligent Personal Assistant, which uses large language models to understand natural commands and provide proactive suggestions based on user behavior. Compatibility with third-party applications provides a dynamic, evolving infotainment ecosystem.

The user-oriented design emphasizes intuitive operation and optimized ergonomics, following BMW’s “hands on the wheel, eyes on the road” philosophy. The system combines touch, voice and physical controls to provide an immersive driving experience.

BMW is also introducing new soundscapes through HypersonX, creating an emotional connection with adaptive driving sounds. Together, these innovations are redefining the in-vehicle experience by combining cutting-edge technology with customer-focused design.
