Dry Studio has opened pre-orders for “the world’s first fluffy customized mechanical keyboard”, launching the Dry Studio Petbrick 65 mechanical keyboard for the first time. This input merch comes in a variety of cat-themed color combinations (but only two will be available immediately at launch).
These cat-inspired 65% mechanical keyboards feature an aluminum frame and are currently available at Dry Studio official store pageas of this writing, there are only 14 Calico and 17 Heterochromia themed units left. In addition to cat-themed fur and key colors, these keyboards feature three RGB backlighting modes.
According to the official product page, the faux fur texture is provided by a “100% handmade fluffy shell with a plush texture similar to Jellycat toys.” It is made from high-quality short-pile fabric and can be cleaned by gentle hand washing.
As for the actual keys, the Dry Studio Petbrick 65 mechanical keyboard uses Angry Miao’s “patented leaf spring mount,” which includes multiple components, including IXPE 8 switch pads and two layers of ultra-low-density EPDM acoustic foam. Paired with it is the Crystal Pink Switch developed by Dry Studio, also known for its transparent housing that enhances RGB lighting. If these are anything like the other Crystal Pink switches, this should result in a keyboard with some pleasant clicks while still not making too much noise thanks to the construction that includes acoustic foam.
As far as connectivity is concerned, the device is capable of using a wired USB connection or completely wireless, supporting Bluetooth or 2.4 GHz operating modes. If you are using wireless and doing things like gaming, it is recommended to use 2.4 GHz wireless instead of regular old Bluetooth wireless. Since the unit weighs about 3.3 pounds and has a very fluffy build, using it wirelessly while interacting with pets might be an ideal use case, although of course, you’ll still want to keep them away from keyed surfaces if possible.
For most users, we think such a keyboard is just a novelty and not worth considering the asking price. Most people would probably be better served by some of our stuff best gaming keyboard or best mechanical keyboard Review, especially considering the pricing.
But for those who like and can afford the novelty, or who find the idea of an already furry keyboard to pair with or reminisce about a real household pet particularly appealing, the Dry Studio Petbrick 65 certainly looks the part Like a well-constructed, novel mechanical keyboard.
