TL;DR

  • A few months ago, we noticed several clues hinting at Gemini integration into Android Auto.
  • We have now managed to enable Gemini UI in Android Auto.
  • The function does not provide an answer yet.

Google is working hard to find ways to implement Gemini across all of its products and services. Just yesterday at CES the company announced that Google TVs will soon receive integration with Gemini. While the tech giant hasn’t officially announced anything yet, back in August we discovered that Android Auto also destined to have a taste of Gemini. At the time we only saw code hinting at the integration, but now we’ve managed to include a user interface.

An APK parsing helps predict features that may appear in a service in the future based on unfinished code. However, it is possible that such predicted features may not make it to the public release.

Last year, we found several signs indicating support for Gemini in Android Auto v12.8.143544. Returning to the Android Auto app, we were able to activate this user interface, which you can see in the screenshots below.

The old Assistant-style icon has been replaced with a new Gemini-style gradient icon. When you press the microphone button, the Gemini Live icon will appear. When you activate Gemini, you will see text at the bottom of the screen: “Ask Gemini.” After this, you will have the opportunity to ask the AI any question that comes to your mind. The video below shows the user interface in action.

At the time of writing, only the user interface appears to be working. We were unable to get Gemini to answer our questions.

In related news, we also recently discovered that Google is laying the groundwork for replacing Assistant with Gemini in Wear OS. Users will be able to “talk” to AI.
