DIY network Reviewed a rather mysterious SSD from Zhitai, which has a PCIe 5.0 x4 interface, is based on an unmarked controller and Yangtze Memory’s fifth-generation 3D NAND, Xtacking 4.0 architecture. The SSD supports read speeds of up to 14.5 GB/s, allowing it to compete with the competition Best SSD. Although the controller is not labeled, this It’s Huirong’s SM2508SMI also confirmed this.
Zhitai’s TiPro9000 2TB SSD comes with an unmarked controller, a 2GB LPDDR4X DRAM die and two 3D NAND packages. According to reports, the 3D NAND package integrates Yangtze Memory’s fifth-generation 3D TLC NAND memory and uses the Xtacking 4.0 architecture, which means 128-layer or 232-layer devices and very high interface transmission rates.
The controller on the drive is not labeled. However, its aluminum heat sink and power circuitry are the same as Huirong’s SM2508, the company’s first PCIe 5.0 controller for client PCs, as is the PCB design. In fact, SMI has confirmed that this is indeed the SM2508.
In terms of performance, Zhitai’s TiPro9000 2TB hard drive has a sequential read speed of 14,527 MB/s, which is slightly lower than what the SMI SM2508-based reference drive can provide, and a sequential write speed of 13,869 MB/s, which is obviously Higher than the reference SMI SM2508 driven SSD provides more features.
Of course, the top speed only lasts when using the SLC cache, which is about 24 seconds for the TiPro9000. After 24 seconds, the speed dropped to about 4000MB/s and remained there for 325 seconds.
After the SLC cache was exhausted, the speed dropped back to 1,700 MB/s ~ 1,800 MB/s, and the transfer rate returned to 4,000 MB/s 259 seconds later. As for random performance, Zhitai stated that this SSD can achieve random read speeds of up to 2M IOPS and random write speeds of up to 1.6M IOPS.
Overall, Zhitai’s TiPro9000’s performance is more or less in line with that of the best PCIe 5.0 x4 drives, which is exactly what you’d expect from a drive based on Silicon Motion’s SM2508 controller, which is designed for top-tier drives. In addition, Yangtze Storage’s fifth-generation 3D NAND equipped with Xtacking 4.0 also contributes to the market-leading performance of TiPro9000.
Zhitai’s TiPro9000 2TB SSD comes with a five-year warranty and a TBW (terabyte write) rating of up to 1,200. Pricing for the drive is unknown.
