Death Stranding 2 PS5 Enters Crunch Period, Hideo Kojima Questions How Much Longer He Can Do It For
WITH Death Stranding 2: On the Beach release is scheduled for some point this year, Hideo Kojima has confirmed that he and his team are now working on the PS5 project to complete it on time. Calling it “the most difficult period of the game’s development,” Kojima tweeted: “Besides mixing and recording the Japanese voice, there are the inevitable piles of other tasks: writing comments, explanations, essays, interviews, discussions, etc. The work involved in acting is incredibly hard.”
Crunch is a term used by game developers when they are nearing the finish line of a project, but with so much still to be done, many employees are forced to work much longer than usual, potentially leading to burnout. As Kojima then explains, this period is exhausting “both physically and mentally.”
In a follow-up post, Kojima wonders how long he can even remain “creative” in the games industry. “I want to keep going for the rest of my life, but is there another 10 years left? 20? Every day it feels like I’m racing against the clock.” Earlier today on Twitter, Kojima said he was watching Blade Runner replenish your “energy”.
At the age of 61, Hideo Kojima has already carved out a legendary career in the gaming industry. His first game called Penguin Adventurereleased in 1986, and then he spent almost three decades at Konami creating Metal Gear Solid. He currently runs the independent studio Kojima Productions, and the industry leader has several other projects in the works, most notably OD with Microsoft and Phizint with Sony.
