Demi Moore and Margaret Qualley channel ‘The Substance’ at the Golden Globes
Substance Stars Demi Moore and Margaret Qualley shared the stage 82nd Golden Globe on Sunday—a fate their on-screen characters could never achieve.
Presenting the award for Best Television Actor in a Drama Series (which Shogun star Hiroyuki Sanada took home), the pair plunged into the competitive tension of their characters, Elizabeth Sparkle and Sue, from Body horror Coralie Fargit.
“What are you doing here?” Moore asked Qualley behind the microphone.
“What do you mean, what am I doing here, Demi?” Qualley replied.

Both Moore and Qualley are nominated for their performances in Substance, with Moore winning the Golden Globe for Best Actress – Motion Picture – Musical/Comedy. These are two of the film’s five Golden Globe nominations, including Best Screenplay (Motion Picture), Best Director (Motion Picture) and Best Picture (Musical/Comedy).
Intense, daring and shocking, the film stars Farjita Moore as an ’80s aerobic exercise show host who uses well-marketed and packaged biological chemicals to find the “best version” of herself. The gist of the title brings in Sue (Qualley), and the deal is that they each take a week or a week off, existing as if the other doesn’t. But Sue has… plans.
It’s a funny moment for the two nominees performing together at this year’s rather low-key ceremony. You can check out all the Golden Globe winners on Mashable’s running list.
