All Good Things, What You Leave Behind, Endgame…and now The Next Generation is the latest addition to the unforgettable pantheonStarCraft” At the end of the season, “Lower Decks,” the series’ only out-and-out comedy, debuted in style.
After last week’s multiverse-hopping adventure, the race begins to save the Prime Universe from a rift in space-time that threatens existence as we know it. The episode also gives all the main Cerritos crew members a chance to shine, while sharing the spotlight with several supporting characters from earlier season five missions.
The series finale feels like the end of a chapter, but leaves enough interesting loose ends to keep the possibility of a spin-off alive. (At least according to fans – it’s important to point out that Paramount+ isn’t making any such suggestions!)
Here’s a rundown of how the Cerrito family became the unlikely saviors of reality, and what the final episode means for the future of the Lower Dex family.
Spoiler alert! If you haven’t watched the “Lower Decks” finale yet, be warned
Why is Star Wars’ main universe under threat?
Two words: Harry King.
In last week’s episode, "Crack Exploration“, Voyager’s perennial flag piloted the interdimensional Beagle ship into a rift in space-time, setting off a chain reaction that threatened to destroy the entire multiverse. Captains William Boimler and Lily Sloan attempted to navigate the destructive Soliton waves come to alleviate this problem. Unfortunately, if not controlled, it will destroy this quantum reality.
William also manages to send a warning to his teleporter doppelgänger, Bradward, who screams “We’re all going to die!” Very restrained considering the circumstances.
Saving the universe sounds like higher stakes than what the Cerritos crew is used to?
Yes, this is a far cry from the traditional second contact scenario for Captain Freeman and his colleagues. Fortunately, she believed Bradward’s story about his “undead transport clones” and soon alerted Starfleet Command of the danger.
It turns out that cracks can be easily sealed using “subspace gluon beams.” question? Getting there requires navigation Schrödinger Possibility fields (S-fields) remap matter onto other possibilities in the multiverse – one projection predicts a Starfleet officer’s head as a cactus.
On any other day, Starfleet would not have nominated a California-class ship like the Cerritos for such an important mission, but the Enterprise was unable to complete the task in time. Furthermore, whether it’s “fate or entanglement,” the connection between the two Boylers makes Cerritos a logical candidate for the mission.
Frankly, on a day like this, the last thing you want is for a pair of Klingon blood wine merchants to arrive on your doorstep, seeking protection from a deranged Raptor commander who wants them all dead. …
Why does Relga have such a problem with Ma’ah?
Klingon commander Relga is eager to fight anyone she can find, while also seeking revenge on Maa for killing her two brothers.
We first meet Ma’ah as a lower decker aboard the Klingon ship Che’Ta’ in Wej Duj (Season 2), played by one of Relgar’s brothers, Dogger ( Dorg) command. Maa reprimands Dogger for his dishonorable behavior towards the Federation, and kills his captain as they settle their dispute the old-fashioned Klingon way. He was subsequently promoted to captain, but was later betrayed by his crew, who abandoned him aboard the Sherbal V, where he met (and fought with) Beckett Mariner (The Struggle Within Season 2). Although he eventually got his ship back, he was dishonorably fired for allowing the crew to seize control in the first place.
However, the oversight committee that made the decision was not entirely impartial as its members included Relga’s other brother, Bagh. Came home and worked on the family blood wine farm(“Farewell to the farm“, Season 5), Maa initiates a forced draft to regain his commission. In an inevitable Klingon fight to the death, he ends up killing Bugs – who, to be fair, has already Bagh was symbolically killed. and Literally stabbed him in the back.
Ma’ah then resumed business with his brother Malor, and while making deliveries they encountered Relga, prompting them to seek refuge in Cerritos. Of course, their pursuers had no interest in hearing about her siblings’ misdemeanors and demanded that Captain Freeman hand them over.
What happens in Schrödinger’s possibility field?
Captain Freeman said, “Everyone prepares for weirdness.” That’s a good summary of what to expect in S Field. In fact, it probably should end with “The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy” Author Douglas Adams believes that the phenomena it produces are very similar to the weird side effects associated with the infinite non-probabilistic drive that powers the Heart of Gold.
During the episode’s cold open, one of Relgar’s raptors became the first to experience the bizarre destructive power of the S-field as the crew and their ship were transformed in Klingon style. Star Wars: Discovery Season 1.
Adjusted shielding harmonics on the Cerritos (which Freeman shared with Relga as a courtesy) provided some protection, but the California-class ships still underwent a rapid series of modifications, briefly taking the form of:
- Freedom-class ships with single-speed nacelles (such as the USS Torch in The Next Generation episode “The Best of Both Worlds”)
- A Terran Imperial ship (Shax said: “Prophets, our weapons are amazing!” It’s a pity he couldn’t use them)
- Sovereign-class ships (such as the USS Enterprise-E in the “TNG” movie)
- Orbers-class ship (such as the USS Gleason in “Searching for Spock”)
- Galaxy-class ships (such as the USS Enterprise-D in “The Next Generation”)
- Miranda-class ships (such as the USS Reliance in Wrath of Khan)
- Several others did not appear on the screen
Meanwhile, the Klingon ships have remained relatively unchanged—presumably, as Dr. Ta’Anna puts it, since their designs have been the same for decades: “They always wanted their ships to look like big, stupid birds. .
Fortunately – and again, hats off to Dr. T’Ana – yes As the demigod ensign Olly (in “gods and angels“, Season 5) fires a bolt of lightning that disables Relga’s shield. Next Schrödinger shock waves cause them Reduced into “angry mindless primitive Klingons”, their ship was destroyed.
How does Cerritos heal the rift?
Teamwork. While the California-class ships were quite outdated by Starfleet standards, Rutherford realized their versatility was a virtue, and after jettisoning his implants to unleash some super-fast engineering, the Rift’s The energy is transferred to the dilithium chamber of Cerritos. In fact, the crack is now powering the ship.
Then, as Cerritos split into two quantum possibilities, each controlling the other, shared science caused Tendi and T’Lyn to enter animation mode, joining forces as “science friends” to unite the separate The ship was put back together.
Unfortunately, when they came within range of the crack, the gluon beams didn’t close the crack the way they should, so Mallor suggested building a dam to contain the energy. The plan was successful, but it left a currently stable rift permanently open.
What does this mean for the future of the “Lower Decks” character?
Paramount+ has confirmed that Lower Decks season 5 will be the show’s last, but the season finale opens up plenty of opportunities for spinoffs — like “Star Wars: Picard“Leaving the door open for the yet-to-be-confirmed follow-up to StarCraft: Legacy, Seven of Nine will captain the renamed USS Enterprise G.
There is a clear “deep space nineIn “DS9,” the eponymous space station is the gatekeeper to the newly opened Bajoran wormhole, which provides a route to the Gamma Quadrant. Starbase 80 – whose retro design renders it immune to the Rift’s tachyon emissions – is poised to play a similar role at the doorstep of this new portal to a parallel universe. Carol Freeman gets a crack at the role of overseer of the Rift like Benjamin Sisko, and a show focused on the multiverse instead of a single universe could be new territory for the series.
Meanwhile, back on the Cerritos, those on the lower decks have been promoted to key positions on the bridge, most notably Marriner and Boimler, Captain Ransom’s newly appointed temporary first mate . While the dynamics on the ship will change, it’s still possible to spend more time with crew members who acknowledge the fact that they’re not Starfleet’s best crew. “This is not the end of the story,” Mariner said at the end of the episode. “This is the beginning.” You can’t help but hope it’s true – especially since Tendy and Rutherford certainly have It doesn’t take long to get together.
