Do you want to have satellite connection on your phone?
One of the biggest news about smartphones in the past few years has been satellite connectivity options. This is an opportunity for manufacturers to talk about exciting leaps forward in the connectivity capabilities of their devices. For everyone else, it’s a great new addition to the already impressive feature set available. But do we really need this connection? It’s a limited set of features, but a significant improvement over basic unit connectivity.
The application is fairly obvious. Hikers can send their coordinates in an emergency, allowing people to stay in touch even in places without power grids. Not to mention the opportunity to stay connected even if a natural disaster renders all other connections unavailable.
However, these services cost extra and may be hindered by trees or even cloudy weather. Therefore, you have the opportunity to own a device that supports satellite connectivity without having to pay for necessary services.
What are your thoughts on satellite connectivity for newer smartphones? Are you excited about using this technology? Please vote in the poll below and tell us where you stand on this issue in the comments.
