Don’t worry, cursed horror game Horses – in which you tend to a farm of naked humans in horse masks – hasn’t been cancelled

Horses, the cursed horror game from Saturnalia developer Santa Ragione and director Andrea Lucco Borler, is still coming out, it’s just taking a little longer to get out of the gate than originally expected.

In Horses, players take on the role of a summer farm worker. It sounds safe enough, and after all, it’s only for two weeks, but lurking beneath the surface is something much darker and downright disturbing.

“Will you survive the summer or will the farm suffer another casualty? Either way, we are confident that your summer work experience will be truly unforgettable…” reads the official blurb.

Horses was originally announced back in 2023 with a suitably disturbing trailer showing off a silent film style of game play and lots of naked people wearing horse masks on their heads. This time, its release was planned for 2024, which obviously was missed.

Fortunately, “Horses” was not closed silently. Santa Ragione confirmed to Eurogamer that the upcoming game will be released this year, and a demo is also expected.

“Unfortunately, we had to delay the game until 2025,” studio director Pietro Rigi Riva told me. “[We’re] I’m not ready to talk about the reasons for the delay yet, but I will definitely keep you informed. We will have a demo and full game release date by the end of Q2 2025.”

So stay tuned for more information on the horses soon.

Our Chris tried horses last year.calling it “magnetically sinister” next time with the game.

“In practice, it’s simpler than some previous Santa Ragione games – essentially you wake up and slowly complete simple, albeit increasingly odd tasks like watering plants, feeding the dog or, um, burying bodies, like the story takes shape around you, but the magic is in the atmosphere and tone,” he wrote.

“This is also a rare attempt to use real, delayed meaning in the game. You’ll have to bring something of your own to the farm table and embrace it.”
