Dreame’s New X50 Robotic Vacuum Won’t Climb Your Stairs, But It’s Getting There

Dreame turned a lot of heads at CES 2025 by showing off its new X50 robot vacuum cleaner that can lift… a little.

While the Dreame X50 won’t climb the stairs in your home to clean multiple floors, it did showcase a new feature that robot vacuum owners have been screaming about for years, and we hope it’s the start of something bigger.

Dreame X50 can overcome small heights

One of The most annoying problems of owning a robot vacuum cleaner this is the time you invariably spend helping him overcome small rapids and other obstacles. In my house, the thresholds between each downstairs room are a bit massive, and I regularly have to jump down to help the robot vacuum make the transition.

This is where the Dreame X50 comes into play. This new robot vacuum features what Dreame calls the “ProLeap system,” helping the X50 get through tough moments with a retractable swing arm. The lever increases the X50’s ground clearance by two inches, helping it navigate more challenging terrain without issue.

The Dreame X50 won’t take you up the stairs to clean your bedroom, but it’s a truly useful addition to the world of robot vacuums, something I’ve personally been clamoring for over the years.

Seeing the X50 in action, it’s clear that this is the first generation of this technology. He was a little erratic at times and couldn’t handle the task on others. But overall it worked; with future improvements this will become a required feature on all robot vacuums, so Dreame is setting the trend here.

Dreame also had a cute little prototype at CES 2025: a robot vacuum cleaner with a massive gripping arm. Dreame representative Kade Maijala explained to me that this robot will move around your home and remove obstacles while cleaning, placing items in specific locations set by the owner.

Although this was a prototype model, it seemed likely that it would be released in the near future. I didn’t see the model lift anything, but the arm looked sturdy and could support a fair amount of weight. I’ll be very interested to see this in action once it’s fully launched!
