Reddit user u/ProjectPhysX shared his PC build r/pcmasterraceshowing two Intel Arc B580s used to run simulations on FluidX3D. The system is Build/Battlestation style and also comes with an Nvidia Titan Xp 12GB for a total of 36GB VRAM. But despite having three GPUs connected, u/ProjectPhysX Surprisingly this build only uses an 800-watt PSU. The rest of his system consists of an Intel i7-13700K and an Asus Z790 ProArt motherboard, but he didn’t reveal how much RAM his computer has.
This is not the first time Intel and Nvidia GPUs are already used together in multi-GPU setupsbecause the same user had previously built a PC with an Intel Arc A770 and the same Nvidia Titan Xp GPU to demonstrate FluidX3D’s multi-GPU capabilities. However, what is more interesting is that u/ProjectPhysX is Dr. Moritz Lehmann, the developer of FluidX3D, a computational fluid dynamics software used to simulate the interaction of fluids such as water or air with their surrounding environment.
Also note that this version is not suitable for games, as only a few games support multi-GPU processing. In contrast, Dr. Lehmann’s FluidX3D can utilize the VRAM of these three graphics cards through PCIe and OpenCL. Furthermore, u/ProjectPhysX says that the performance of a dual B580 setup is as good as the RTX 3090, but at a fraction of the price of a used Nvidia Ampere flagship GPU.
In addition to this (and the reason why he was able to obtain two B580 GPUs so quickly), Dr. Lehmann’s day job is as a GPU software development engineer at Intel, where he “wrote most of the GPU core for XeSS Frame” to generate and Super resolution.
Unfortunately, the cheapest B580 is still out of stock at many retailers in the US, although some more expensive models are still available. This goes to show how many people think it’s a great GPU, and our own review of the Intel Arc B580 shows that it is New $249 GPU Champion.
