There is a disturbing sinister presence In the season finale of HBO’s “Staring from the Dark Obscurity”Dune: Prophecy,” the show concluded its brief but satisfying debut season last Sunday night, which included plenty of reveals, unexpected deaths, family revelations, and the arrival of an infamous planet called Arrakis. Desert planet.
back last week’s In shocking news, Desmond Hart is the abandoned illegitimate son of Tula Harkonnen and Ori Atreides – marking the origins of a millennium-long rivalry between these two great families – —There’s a lot to unpack in this extended ending titled “High Pressure Enemies.” Let’s get started!
Aboard Wallach Nine, Tula is distraught, haunted by the ghosts of past decisions ever since she learned that Desmond Hart was her long-abandoned son. With the help of Kazir, a former sister who later became Sooke’s school doctor, they determined that Desmond’s powers came from a bioengineered virus that fed on fear. Someone (or something) used the virus to mutate him, but if they could chemically counter its effects, they could produce a cure. While trying to transform the virus, Khazir saw a vision of the “monster of Arrakis” before being roasted from the inside by Tula’s fear and died.
We then get a flashback to that pivotal moment when Varya gained the support and loyalty of Tula, Francesca, and Kasha after using her voice to kill her fundamentalist antagonist, Sister Dorotie. In a private moment, young Tula told her sister that she was pregnant and devised a plan to protect the child. Eventually, she would hand him over to an itinerant worker and replace the child with the anonymous woman’s stillborn child. Sisters above all else!
Back at the present-day palace, Princess Ines is arrested by Queen Natalia for trying to free the imprisoned Kellan Atreides. Francesca told the news to Valia, who quickly hatched a complex conspiracy to use Sister Theodosia’s Face Changer skills and Francesca’s romantic relationship with the Emperor’s resurrection and assassinates him with a poisoned lancet.
In the Sisterhood’s cave after Sister Jean releases Lila from her bonds, this is a bad idea as the tormented girl is a resurrecting force to be reckoned with, especially since she is fighting the late Sisterhood The ancestors struggled with their multiple personalities. The current inhabitants are Sister Dorothea, a fanatic who was murdered by Varya decades ago. But now, she becomes an instrument of truth as she leads her followers to the mass graves, where young Varya and her followers kill anyone who opposes them after Dorothea mutilates herself. This is a truly horrifying revelation as we learn about the pit of skulls that accumulates at the bottom of the Reflecting Pool.
To help restore the Order’s path to justice, Lila then destroyed the genetic thinking machine Anirul, which had been Varya and Tula’s artificial intelligence breeding index program.
With Ines in jail and Natalia allying herself with Desmond Hart, playing puppet master with the weakened Gavico, Francesca delivers the final blow to the tyrant’s stomach when she reveals Valia’s Murder plan. Haveko decides he can only control one thing in his doomed life and stabs himself with a dagger before Natalia can enter. Seeing her journey to great power thwarted, she kills Francesca with a poisonous needle intended for the Emperor. Not a happy time on Salusa Secundus!
Meanwhile, Theodosia transformed into a palace guard and stabbed Desmond Hart, who fell to the ground but was not mortally wounded. Varya arrives and demands that Desmond reveal her “ending” vision that he mentioned to her earlier in the season. In a psychedelic netherworld dream sequence, we relive the moment Valia first uses her voice to rescue Griffin from the icy water.
The nightmare becomes more severe when Tula arrives to soothe Valia’s sight and slowly transform the Omnis mental virus. This leads to images of giant sandworms erupting from the depths of the desert, and a terrifying scene of Desmond being manipulated by a robotic arm that carves a thinking machine into his eyeballs (yes, that’s scary!). This comes from the sisterhood’s shared nightmare, filled with terrifying black throats and blue machine lights. From the observation window above the operating room, a vague figure wearing a cloak was watching the cruel experiments on Desmond.
When Tura’s voice stopped her, Varya was suddenly shocked as she realized that she had to kill Desmond to end this. Tula eventually explained that Desmond Hart was actually her abandoned son. Stunned by the web of lies, Varya admits and declares that she will continue to uncover the identities of these thinking machine monsters and quit. Tula and Desmond hugged and had a whispered reunion before Desmond ordered the guards to arrest her, but was clearly moved by the intimacy.
We wrap up the excellent Dune prequel series, which all started with the dangerous Imperial soldier Desmond Hart, as Valia, Ines and Kellan land on Arrakis, Valia’s daring Proclaiming “the road to our enemies begins here.”
What will happen to Varya and Tula’s broken relationship? How will Natalya and Desmond reorganize the Empire’s power platform? Who is behind all this? Are there answers waiting for Valya on Arrakis that could provide personal redemption and restore the Sisterhood?
Now that HBO has ordered a second season, these issues will all be fleshed out at some point in the near future, but we’ll have to be patient for now. Until then, more fruitcake and fudge will definitely help ease the endless wait.
