Fancy testing out Baldur’s Gate 3 Patch 8 and its long-awaited crossplay mechanics? Larian’s now letting folks sign up to do just that

Larian released Baldur’s Gate 3The last big community update is in 2024, and it brings good news. Registration is now open for the Patch 8 stress test, which will take place early next year, so you can put your username in the hat if you’d like.

As told by the studio at the end of last monthPatch 8 – the last major update for BG3, swears. What will it contain? Well, a ton of stuff, like cross-play, a photo mode, and 12 new subclasses, including College of Glamor bards, bladesinging wizards, and drunken master monks.

In this announcement, Laraine mentioned that the update would be stress tested in January 2025, and it is now opened registration for this test, so you can apply for it by going to this link. You’ll just pique your interest so you might not get chosen, but it’s worth a try if you like it.

As for why there is a test that is available to PC users via Steam, Xbox and PlayStation but not Mac or GOG, Larian explained: “The purpose of a stress test is to do exactly what it sounds like; thoroughly test the latest version of the game to detect any instability or gameplay issues before patch 8 is released. With your help, we can keep an eye on any funny developments.

“Introducing cross-play into a game like Baldur’s Gate 3 has proven to be a challenge, and we need your help testing this new functionality. Share the stress test registration link to invite your friends and take part in cross-testing. play the campaign or go to the Larian Studios Discord server and find a group to play with.”

While the mods should be fine, Larian also says this test will give him a chance to see how they stack up against the new features in Patch 8, which will hopefully mean download orders won’t be giant barrel explosions come release , waiting in the wings. Starting today, the studio is also curating console mods for the holidays, but will return to that work in the new year.
