Final Fantasy VII Rebirth is heading to PC in January, a year after its console launch

Final Fantasy VII: Rebirth came out on consoles back in February, and if I had to guess, I’d say it’ll be coming to PC in about a year. Hey, guess what! Square Enix has just announced the release date for Rebirth on PC: January 23, 2025.

The PC version will have improved lighting, improved textures and models, and support for DLSS and other graphics features. You can see it in action in the brief trailer below:

Rebirth picks up where Remake left off by rendering Final Fantasy VIIPost-Midgar territories in all the splendor of modern machines in high definition. Obviously we didn’t review it properly because it didn’t come out on PC, but Katherine enjoyed it when she played on the console. (backers only) although it did have some issues with the open world design:

That’s not to say that Rebirth isn’t as exciting or stunningly beautiful and impressive as other open worlds. But the way he sticks to Chadley’s tick-box mode I think robs him of some of the potential wonder. Once you’ve completed all of these tasks, there’s little to discover about them, which makes them feel a little empty and lacking in mystery. For all of Final Fantasy 15’s flaws, and there are many, I always felt a strange thrill whenever I turned a corner on one of the many great highways, and the idle chatter of my boys in the backseat of the car gave me a sense of curiosity. As a result, the world became a little more interesting and a little more individual. Your Rebirth team may be better chocobo riders than Noctis and his boy band, but they’re definitely strangely silent when you’re jumping between mission objectives.
