Fubo and Hulu + Live TV Get Combined

This morning it was announced that Fubo And Hulu + Live merge into a single business. Once the dust settles, Disney will become the majority owner and will be led by Fubo’s existing management team. And to make sure this doesn’t get lost anywhere, both services will continue to be available to consumers as separate offerings.

This is all in the name of “consumer choice through more flexible software offerings,” which is always said right before price increases. We’ve seen it over and over again at this point.

As part of the announcement, Fubo will create a new Sports & Broadcasting service that will feature Disney’s leading sports and broadcast networks. This should mean good news for Fubo customers, but we won’t really know how all of this will impact customers until everything is approved and finalized, which could take some time.

Fubo co-founder and CEO David Gandler, who will now helm the entire show, had the following to say in a press release.

We are thrilled to partner with Disney to create a consumer-focused streaming company that will combine the strengths of the Fubo and Hulu + Live TV brands. This combination allows us to deliver on our promise to provide consumers with greater choice and flexibility. Additionally, this agreement allows us to scale efficiently, strengthens Fubo’s balance sheet and provides positive cash flow. This is a win for consumers, our shareholders and the entire streaming industry.

Sorry, but almost always when shareholders win, consumers can’t be winners either. At the moment, nothing is changing in prices and services. I’d enjoy it while it lasts.
