what is it?

The Ergo S-1 is a completely wireless, detachable ergonomic keyboard compatible with cherry/gateron switches and cherry/oem/dcs keycaps. It runs on the excellent ZMK firmware.

Why is this happening?

I love ergonomic keyboards. The first keyboard I made was the Atreus, and I was fascinated by its ease of use for a beginner. In 2021, when I was unemployed, I spent a lot of time designing an ergonomic keyboard that anyone could easily build.
This is the first step towards achieving this goal. The design of these housings allows you to easily access the switch for manual wiring. It contains a parts list for all the other parts you need.

What switches/keycaps can I use?

This layout is intended to be standards-compliant Cherry/OEM 104 keys Keycap covers. DCS is also compatible, but DSA or SA will not fit all keys due to keyway shape.
This case is compatible with Cherry MX and Gateron switches. The switch is held in place by a groove in the side, so alternative designs like kailh or otemu won’t fit.

Can you make one for me?

While this example is open source and anyone can build it themselves for free, getting the prints right can be challenging. So I have some available in my Etsy shop.

Do you make complete kits?

Not yet, but I’m working on it! At this point you will need to purchase switches, keycaps, and electronics from other suppliers. I’ve provided links to a list of recommended hardware to make it as simple as possible.
If you would like a kit that is (even) easier to assemble, please let me know! I’m trying my best to get this done.

This is great! Can I help?

The best thing you can do for me is share my work! The more popular this design becomes, the easier it will be for me to make kits and even assemble the keyboard.

Under which license is this project released?

The hardware and related documentation are released according to CERN OHL-S v2. The complete license text can be found in the SOURCE folder.
