Go teams struggle with coding standards – survey

Although the developers’ attitude towards Switch language remains very positive, teams are facing a challenge when it comes to maintaining consistent coding standards across Go codebases, according to Go Developer Survey Results for the second half of 2024. Go developers have also been quick to adopt AI assistants, the study found.

The survey, conducted from September 9 to 23, found that 93% of respondents felt satisfied with their experience with Go during the previous year. However, maintaining consistent coding standards was a challenge as team members had different levels of experience in Go and had different programming backgrounds. This has led to inconsistencies in coding styles and the adoption of non-idiomatic patterns.

The survey, published on December 20, 2024, covered a total of 4,156 responses, with participants recruited from the Go blog and randomized prompts in the Go plugin for Visual Studio Code And GoLand IDE. According to the survey report, this allowed for a more representative sample of Go developers to be recruited. Other survey findings:
