Google Gemini 2.0 announced with multimodal image and audio output, agentic AI features
Google has launched Gemini 2.0, the latest generation of artificial intelligence models that now supports “agent-era” image and audio output and tool integration. Agent AI models represent AI systems that are capable of completing tasks independently through adaptive decision-making. Consider automating tasks such as shopping or scheduling appointments based on prompts.
Gemini 2.0 will feature multiple agents that can help you in various areas, from providing instant suggestions in games like Clash of Clans to picking up gifts and adding them to your shopping cart based on prompts.
Like other AI agents, the AI agents in Gemini 2.0 have goal-directed behavior. They can create task-based step lists and complete them autonomously. Agents in Gemini 2.0 include Project Astra, which is designed as a general-purpose artificial intelligence assistant for Android phones, with multi-modal support and integration with Google Search, Lens, and Maps.
Project Mariner is another experimental artificial intelligence agent that can navigate itself in a web browser. Mariner is now available in early preview as a Chrome extension to “trusted testers.”
In addition to the AI agent, Gemini 2.0 Flash is the first version of Google’s new AI model. It is currently an experimental (beta) version and features lower latency, better benchmark performance, and improved math and coding reasoning and understanding compared to Gemini 1.0 and 1.5 models. It can also generate images natively supported by Google DeepMind’s Imagen 3 text-to-image model.
