Google Maps on Android rolls out new teal accent color

While many Google apps have adopted dynamic colors (aka Material You themes), Google Maps still displays a static color palette. Same as the rest mobile application From the company’s perspective, the default accent color has long been blue. To better complement the Maps app’s color palette, Google is rolling out a teal interface Android phone user.

For now, this change appears to only be available for Android users running Google Maps version 24.49.06.x or higher. If you don’t see it, make sure your app is up to date and try force quitting it through the Settings app. It’s unclear when the iPhone app will follow suit.

The new cyan hue can be seen throughout the Google Maps app, affecting buttons, text, and other UI elements. For example, the tab icons in the bottom navigation bar have a new color tone, while the labels below them have changed from blue to black. Other in-app buttons such as Directions, Comments, and Table of Contents also feature the teal look.

While some users may find the change jarring, cyan arguably fits the Google Maps color palette better than blue. Retired colors may be too saturated compared to the application’s UI. Teal, on the other hand, is gentler on the eyes and complements them beautifully. Navigation service Brilliantly.
